NOTE FROM TALYON'S MOM: Our hearts were sadden last week learning about the terrorist attacks in Brussels, we are grateful that the missionaries at the airport were saved and we have been lifted and inspired by their testimonies of our Savior and a Loving Father in Heaven even during a very sad and troubling event that they have shared in many interviews. We are also very grateful for the many dear friends that have reached out to us this past week checking on Talyon. He is currently serving in a small farm town in Northern Netherlands and is quite far removed from all that was going on in Belgium, as a missionary I doubt he hears the amount of news coverage that we do here and has continues his work as usual.
We have been grateful for the good communications that we have received from his Mission President, letting us know that all the missionaries are safe. In fact, I just wanted to share that the week prior to the attack, we had word from President Bunnell that they moved the missionaries serving inside Brussels to areas outside of the city and that all missionaries serving in Belgium were told to avoid large crowds, train stations and any places or events with a large police presence. We feel that that was very inspired counsel!! The Day of the attack and following the Missionaries near Brussels, were told to stay in their apartments. The latest update we got on Friday, let us know that the threat alert had been lowered from 4 to 3 in Belgium, the missionaries in Belgium are allowed to work in their immediate areas only and are still avoiding trams, trains, public gatherings, etc as before.
Hello Family,
So nothing new to report with you guys, we kinda just repeated last week. we were dropped by 3 more investigators this week, including the mom we found last week. So we now have next to no one left, so finding will be the theme for a while now (haha) It's good though, i like finding people, doors are fun because you never know what you are going to come across with miracles or just funny/creepy stories :)
We were looking up a referral in the middle of nowhere (1 hour away from our city) and someone on her bike screamed "Mormonen" and stopped to talk. she was a investigator 12 years ago in anther city then she moved and hadn't seen missionaries since then, so that was really cool.
Lastly, Yes Ive heard about the Brussels thing. No reason to go into the event itself, but i found a great comparison to the event in the Book Of Mormon. In Alma 14 Alma and Amulek are in a city and are preaching the gospel and the non-religious people of the city revolted against them and caused that the wives and children of the members should be killed (comparable to the people effected in the bombings) and it says highlights added to show main points and MY NOTES ARE IN PARENTHESIS...
10 And when Amulek saw the pains of the women and children who were consuming in the fire, he also was pained; and he said unto Alma: How can we witness this awful scene? Therefore let us stretch forth our hands, and exercise the power of God which is in us, and save them from the flames.
11 But Alma said unto him: The Spirit constraineth me that I must not stretch forth mine hand; for behold the Lord receiveth them up unto himself, in glory; and he (he is God) doth suffer (can be replaced with "allow") that they may do this thing, or that the people may do this thing unto them, according to the hardness of their hearts, that the judgments which he shall exercise upon them in his wrath may be just; and the blood of the innocent shall stand as a witness against them, yea, and cry mightily against them at the last day.
Take what you want from it, but i found it as a proof that the Book Of Mormon does relate to things going on in our lives today.
Love you all!
