So as some of you guys know I'm in The Netherlands (the visa came in the last minute!) and I'm serving in the City of Heerlen in the very south east of the country. This area is totally awesome and different from every other area in the country. First, its an English ward! The only one in the mission! Half of our ward are members that live in a nearby Air Force/NATO base. Because we have military families we can buy American food on the base, for example we are the only missionaries that have Gatorade or Reese's in our apartment. Its the small things from home that are the best :) Another interesting thing is half of our ward lives in Germany! So yes Ive gotten to use my very basic German a couple times. And lastly the missionary work in this area is booming. we have 5 people that have testimonies of the Book of Mormon but are just needing to take that last step. Because of the boom Ive only knocked on one door so far, we just have too many others to meet with right now. So could be a great time here!
So along with the work booming, we are super busy going from lesson to lesson, so we do tons of train/bus riding because our area is so big. Funny thing about our area is for what ever reason the investigators call us to set up meetings! haha which is totally awesome, but unheard of in this country!
Elder Hirsch, my trainer, he is awesome. Love the guy. He's really helping me with my dutch because I'm kinda limited to how much i can use it because of the ward that I am in, so that's super helpful. We also have sisters in our area that we do tons of joint teaches with and they always bring us food! they are the best!
I'll end with a quick miracle story. So yesterday (Sunday) we went to go find this referral from church HQ requesting a danish Book of Mormon. So we get to this area and we try to ring her up but she isn't home so we belled up a few other doors (bell ups get you entrance to apartment buildings so its our version of knocking) and no one answered and we were about to leave but we just thought we should try one more and we found a young man like 20ys old and he lets us in and we taught the first lesson and we found out he's a close classmate of one of our most recent converts! so we will definitely take her along with next time!
See ya,
